Smart Bidding on Ebay

When you are looking to buy anything online and use the search engines to help you find your fancy, you almost always end up with several pages of items on sold on eBay. Having all these pages show up on your browser is like having racks and racks or shelves and shelves of your desired item to choose from. These pages could be overwhelming in the vastness of options they present. But the obstinate shopper never wheels in the cart before finding the best deals. How exactly do you shop in eBay?

The first step to buying anything on eBay is to register. Anyone can browse or search through listings on eBay, but only registered members are allowed to make transactions on eBay. On eBay’s private registration page is an online form that anyone can fill in. Required basic information include name, address, telephone number and email. Anyone who registers need to agree to the User Agreement which outlines all the rules in making transactions on eBay. This includes things that you are and are not allowed to do on eBay. Then, you will be asked for a user ID and a password. In case you forget your password, you will be asked to choose a secret question to which you will also be required to provide the correct answer. An email message will then be sent to you with a link back to eBay to confirm your membership. Once you have confirmed your membership, you can shop away!

eBay is basically an auction site with items listed in terms of category and price. You can browse through eBay’s pages for the item you want. It is important that you check the featured product’s description to see if it is really what you want. Although similar products might be listed, their specifications and physical condition may differ. Also check the seller’s reputation. Some buyers post feedback on sellers from whom they get their items. You will find that most reliable sellers would have an excellent seller rating.

Once you have picked out the exact item you want, you can now start to bid on it. There is no need to register every time you wish to participate in an auction. At eBay, your membership allows you to participate in bids however often you want. Bidding on eBay is a lot different from conventional bidding. For one thing, bidding on eBay is time-bound. An item stays available online for a number of days. By the end of the bidding period, whoever the winning bidder is gets to buy the item. The bidding process on eBay is quite complicated as compared to conventional bidding wherein one bidder just attempts to top another. Determining the winning bidder depends on the series of bids made on an item. On eBay the starting bid is the amount set by the seller. The minimum bid does not move until the second bid is made, at which point the minimum bid is set at the lower of either the second bid plus one bidding increment or the previous highest bidder’s bid plus one bidding increment. The winning bidder is the one with the highest bid amount at the end of the auction period. The amount the winning bidder has to pay is not necessarily the amount that he bid. The actual selling price would be the second highest bid plus one bidding increment.

It might sound like a complicated process but there really is just one thing to remember. With this kind of proxy bidding, anyone buying from eBay should bid the maximum amount he is willing to pay for a particular item. Watch the bids come in and when the
